Will Smith promotes"Hitch" in Spanish
2005-02-16 00:23:03 XinhuaEnglish

BEIJING, Feb. 16-- Will Smith tried his luck with Spanish while plugging the Mexico premiere of his new romantic comedy,"Hitch." Smith struggled at times, inventing words like"set-ay" when describing the movie's set, as he switched between Spanish and English during an appearance Tuesday on a morning news program.

But the show's female host was still impressed, praising his"Spanglish," helping translate the Spanish phrases the 36-year-old actor couldn't quite master and blushing when he kissed her hand at the end of the interview.

"From the time I was a child, I always enjoyed making people laugh," Smith said."I like it when people smile and when people connect on a joke."

Smith stars as a professional"date doctor" who helps hopeless men win the hearts of their dream women in"Hitch."

His screen credits also include"Independence Day,""Men in Black" and"Ali."
