Surgeonfish to help cure sick fish
2005-08-03 02:36:13

BEIJING, Aug. 3 -- An aquarium inside the Guangzhou Zoo introduced more than 100 surgeonfish from Southeast Asia, the Guangzhou Daily reported Tuesday.

The 6-centimeter-long blue surgeonfish cleaned away bacteria and helped cure bigger fishes¡¯infections, aquarium workers said.

Fierce ocean creatures like sharks could be very friendly to surgeonfish. They would open their mouths to welcome surgeonfish and never swallow them. Surgeonfish mainly fed on pests, bacteria and other food wastes from mouths of big ocean creatures, the aquarium said. The coral fish were mainly located in Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. They were found in South China Sea and Taiwan Straits.

Sick fish would recover several days after they received treatment from the surgeonfish, the aquarium said. The aquarium said they would put the surgeonfish into all the fish pools to treat diseases for all the sea creatures.Enditem
