BEIJING, Dec. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- China has built its largest center for wildlife salvation and reproduction in Beijing's eastern Shuyi District, the Beijing Morning Post reported here Friday.
The government invested 21.33 million yuan (about 2.67 million US dollars) to build the center covering an area of 16 hectares, the paper said. Its task is aimed at the salvation and reproduction of birds, beasts, amphibians and reptiles.
The ecological environment and ecological diversity are maintained in the center as much as possible.
Approximately 1,000 wild birds confiscated on Beijing markets for the prevention of bird flu earlier have been sent to this center, an official with Beijing forest department was quoted by the paper as saying.
