Described as"mother of law education," the Law School of RUC, founded in 1950, was the first regular college offering law courses in New China.

"The Law School is not only the cradle of China's jurists but has also created a favorable atmosphere for the study of law," said Wang Liming, president of the law school, in his address to the celebration conference Friday.

Currently, the school has a faculty of 50 professors and doctoral supervisors. During the past 55 years, more than 300,000 students have graduated from the law school.

"Since its foundation, the law school has contributed greatly to the country's legislation, judicary and the drive of ruling the country by law," said Xiao Yang, China's chief justice and president of the Supreme People's Court, and also a graduate of the law school.

At the celebration conference, an alumni association will be set up, according to sources from the law school. Enditem
