Bilingual traffic signs to be standardized

BEIJING, March. 8-- A Beijing Evening News story reports that the Beijing Municipal Government has decided to standardize the city's bilingual traffic signs-- signs written in both Chinese and English.

This project will be divided into 3 phases and is expected to be complete by the end of 2007.

According to the article, Beijing citizens have become increasingly interested in learning English. Many language institutions have been established to promote study of the English language.

It is estimated that the total number of English-speakers in Beijing will amount to 4 and a half million. Enditem
