One mln Yuan in donations for¡ùHope School¡ì

BEIJING, March.15-- 1.2 million yuan, or some 148,000 US dollars, has been donated by a group of people in Shanghai on Monday to help build a¡ùHope Project School¡ì in northern China£ªs Inner Mongolia, a Chinese media outlet reported Tuesday.

The People's Daily says the money was collected and handed in by a delegate on behalf of Li Min, a daughter of late Chinese leader Mao Zedong, and her five comrades in arms, at the Shanghai Hope Project Office. The donators want to build a¡ùHope School¡ì in Alashanzuoqi County of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Cui Xinhua, one of Li Min£ªs comrades, says when they stayed in Alashanzuoqi in 1969 during a period when young intellectuals were called to go to the countryside, they had received warm and unfaltering care from locals and help from local Mongolian herbs. Cui recalled one of the comrades fell ill with high fever, and it was under the care of an elderly woman that the patient finally recovered. Thinking about it he couldn£ªt hold the tears from falling down his cheeks.

37 years later, though the comrades in arms who had this unforgettable life experience are now scattered around the country, they all still remember the care and help they received from the local people of Inner Mongolia. It is because of this that they have donated 200,000 Yuan each, totaling 1.2 million yuan to build new buildings at the Number 6 Primary School in Alashanzuoqi. The new 1,600 square meter buildings will accommodate some 1,000 students and help to create a better educational environment.
