2006-07-31 20:37:05 Xinhua English

BEIJING, August 1 -- Ten "American Idol" finalists dropped by the Oval Office to meet US President George W. Bush. President Bush squeezed in a 10-minute photo opportunity with the contestants after his meeting with British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

"American Idol" is a hit television show singing competition. Many of the winners and contestants have become famous, including Kelly Clarkson and William Hung.

President Bush gaves the finalists a tour of the Oval Office and talked about his job. They took photos together as well. He urged them to stick to their beliefs even as their celebrity status grows.

It's unclear how familiar Bush is with the finalists. Asked whether he had ever seen the show, the White House responded he is "aware" of it.
