BEIJING, Oct.18 (Xinhua) -- Beijing plans to build 10 open-air theatres before 2008 -- Olympics year -- and will ensure that every urban community can project films, local government sources announced on Wednesday. Cultural service centers in every urban community can be used for artistic performances, film projections, reading, training, keep-fit and other recreational and entertainment purposes, according to Jiang Gongmin, head of the municipal culture bureau. "Beijing has ensured that every farmer on its territory is able to see at least one film every month. But with tickets so expensive, most urbanites are unable to go to the movies," Jiang said. A movie ticket in the capital now costs 30-80 yuan (3.8-10.1 U.S. dollars), and sometimes as much as 100 yuan (12.7 U.S. dollars) for some imported blockbusters. Beijingers' per-capita disposable monthly income averages 1,600 yuan (202.5 U.S. dollars). Jiang revealed that culture departments in the city will buy 12domestically produced digital movies each year and release them to each urban community, so that at least one film will be available each month for all citizens. Beijing has built an open-air theatre at an entertainment ground in Shijingshan District and will complete another at Yuting Park in Chongwen District at the end of the year. Construction work will begin on eight more such theatres. There are 164 silver screens in Beijing cinemas. Multiplex developments will offer a further 1,700 screens in the future. Enditem
