BEIJING, March 16 -- Men are from Mars, women are from Venus. In this case it's France and China. And a French male artist and a Chinese woman artist share the same language of man-woman vitality and renewal in their paintings at ifa Village on Moganshan Road, writes Jenny Hammond. A man and a woman - they are one of life's contrasts. The two in question are also very different individuals: the man is from France, the woman from China. Both of them are artists and both have different cultures, but when they get together in the art world, then they finally share the same language. Through Jean Louis Simeray's and Ye Lan's latest exhibition at ifa Village, the Spanish gallery Director Ana Gonzalez explains the difference of sexes through the language of art. The Feelings exhibition shows these artists who are so different but both represent their countries and cultures, says Gonzalez. "With Simeray, the man from the South of France, I can almost smell the sunshine through his colorful paintings. I see a man full of love in front of a woman." "Ye Lan, the Chinese woman artist shows her sensitivity through her style of painting." It is this sensitivity that is their common point, she continues. "The feeling goes through the forms and colors and goes into my heart. To me personally, they represent perfectly the beginning of spring and that's where we are." Although from very different backgrounds, now their contrasting styles of work merge together harmoniously in this colorful exhibition. From just observing the two styles, it is clear to pick up the differentiation from the alternate sexes. Simeray's works are bold and confident; they seem to take charge of the viewer's attention instantly. Recently he developed his art by marrying his paintings, photography with computer work, allowing him to push further the limits of his creativity, explains Gonzalez. Although of abstract and pop art inspiration, he freely or ironically expresses his ideas through more classical work in his portraits of women. "However, some of his paintings express the real rebel nature of his inspiration, and the violence of the drawing combined with the incredible intensity of the colors give the work an amazing strength." His new Indifference collection shows human emotions through the love story of a couple between the meeting scenes, passion, dialogue, misunderstanding and finally, the breaking of their relationship. In contrast, Ye's works are simultaneously tranquil and dynamic. She puts all her emotions into the creation, which may look chaotic at first glance but this only highlights their originality, says Gonzalez. The Chinese artist also uses a combination of black and white to represent the inspiration coming from the subconscious when dreaming. The series People and Dance illustrates the growing harmony between people, and people and nature, for nature always follows harmonious laws. "Instantly human beings find themselves in a repeating process of living lonely lives. Struggling, exploring, seeking happiness and dancing crazy. All these are universal and enduring human emotions and experiences," says Gonzalez. All of the female artist's paintings, whether dancers, lotus or landscapes, are inspired by and created from the power of her inner feelings. "The man has printed his vision on China, full of the colors, the renewal and the joy of the life, the love histories between women and men. The woman has painted the sensual female body, full of the roundness and curves, close to the Occidental women," says Gonzalez. (Source: Shanghai Daily)
