NEW YORK, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Neue Galerie New York, the museum for German and Austrian art, will exhibit from Thursday some 30 pieces of Vincent Van Gogh's works of art and over 40 of important paintings by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Otto Dix, and others. In a press preview held on Wednesday, curator Jill Lloyd, the well-known scholar of Expressionism who organized the "Van Gogh and Expressionism" exhibition, made explanations to help visitors understand the works and explore the crucial influence of Van Goghon German and Austrian Expressionism. "Van Gogh's greatness goes beyond his brilliant draftsmanship and approach to color and structure," said Ronald S. Lauder, President of the Neue Galerie. "Van Gogh is the artist who almost single-handedly brought a greater sense of emotional depth to painting. In that way, he can truly be called the father of Expressionism." "This exhibition sheds new light on an artist beloved around the world," said Rene Price, Director of the Neue Galerie. "It demonstrates his profound influence on the artists at the core of our collection." Some of Van Gogh's masterpieces, such as The Bedroom, The Italian Woman with Carnations, Farms near Auvers, and four of his self-portraits, will remain on view through July 2. Artists reinterpreted Van Gogh in the light of their own concerns, the museum said in a press release. The exhibition which was organized in conjunction with the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam, is the first of this kind to examine in detail the influence of Van Gogh's art on the Expressionists, according to the museum.
