MEDELLIN, Colombia, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Spain's Royal Academy on Wednesday launched a new grammar for Spanish at the beginning of the 13th Congress of Spanish Language Academy Associations in the Colombian city of Medellin. "The New Grammar is not a book of black and white ... because there are situations that are progressing," Garcia de la Concha, director of the Royal Academy, told Xinhua. The book, the New Grammar, will be discussed at the congress and await approval. The new grammar is the product of years of study and cooperation of academies in Spanish-speaking countries, the Royal Academy and the Association of Academies, according to the director. "This is the best grammar book ever written. It has more than 2,000 pages and has not left out any of the language's problems," said Jose Moreno de Alba, director of the Mexican Language Academy. "It brings together all the specific ways of speaking in each nation and respects the variety of everyday language," he added. Humberto Lopez, secretary general of the Spanish Language Academies Association, spoke highly of the new grammar, saying, "We want to leave a legacy that will not be ephemeral." "This grammar book will be a milestone and the international world of grammar will be divided in two parts: before this Medellin Grammar and after it," said Lopez.
