SHANGHAI, June 1 -- Film's famous flasher Sharon Stone will walk the red carpet at next month's 10th Shanghai International Film Festival. Stone, who memorably gave a room full of men an eyefull in "Basic Instinct," will be joined at the June 16 opening ceremony by a host of other stars, including Hong Kong actress Maggie Cheung, Taiwanese singer and actor Jay Chou and French actresses Marion Cotillard and Emmanuelle Seigner. Japanese director Yoji Yamada, South Korean actor Lee Jun-ki and veteran mainland film maker Gu Changwei will also attend, according to the festival's organizing committee yesterday. Additionally, the crew of several new productions including Feng Xiaogang's war epic "Ji Jie Hao," ("The Assembly"), Zhu Yanping's "Slam Dunk" and Hong Kong film maker John Woo's next blockbuster "Battle of Red Cliffs" are schduled to appear. Most of the pictures are in post production and will be released later this year. Organizers said this year's festival will feature a retrospective of the work of acclaimed directors and actors from home and abroad, such as Japanese director Akira Kurosawa, Spain's Pedro Almodovar and Hong Kong actress Maggie Cheung. The festival closes on June 24. With so many international stars in attendance, organizers said they are keen to get everything just right - especially the food. "It's always a hard job for us to accommodate our guests from all over the world because they have different dining styles and habits," said Tang Lijun, an official with the organizing committee. Tang said the committee will probably offer delicious local-flavored dishes and snacks such as steamed buns and hairy crab.
