BEIJING, Jun 5 (AP) -- Chinese authorities were searching for an Australian tourist believed missing in an area of southwestern China where two American mountain climbers died late last year, a mountaineering official said Tuesday. Andrew Clem Lindenmayer has not been heard from in more than a month and was last seen in the Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan province, said Liu Feng, an official with the Sichuan Mountaineering Association. "There has been no contact with him since he sent an e-mail on May 2. We have been searching for him since June 1 when we were informed by the Australian side," Liu said. Notices have been posted in villages seeking information from anyone who may have seen Lindenmayer, Liu said. He added the Australian was only touring the area and was not carrying any mountain climbing equipment. In late December, U.S. climbers Christine Boskoff and Charlie Fowler were killed while scaling a mountain in the Ganzi area. Fowler's body was found, but Boskoff's was still missing. Because of privacy laws, the Australian Embassy in Beijing does not give out information on Australian citizens. The state-run China Daily newspaper gave Lindenmayer's age as 47.
