SHANGHAI, June 12 -- A UNIVERSITY student died last Sunday after jumping out of the window of his girlfriend's third floor bedroom to escape being caught by the girl's mother, a Gansu Province newspaper said today. The man, a junior student at a university in Lanzhou, the capital of Northwest China's Gansu Province, was pronounced dead due to severe head injuries and blood loss. The 21-year-old victim, whose name was not revealed, was chatting with his girlfriend in her bedroom in a residential building on the campus late Sunday night, an insider told the newspaper. "The mother heard a male voice in her daughter's bedroom, so she knocked at the door to check," the insider said. The lovers were scared about what would happen if the mother found a man in the girl's bedroom. Three male classmates of the man were called and got into position to catch the man when he tried to escape by jumping out of the window. However, the three failed to catch him and he hit the ground on his head. His classmates took him to hospital early Monday morning. Local police are now investigating the man's death.
