The sleazy sound of New York City
2007-06-20 19:35:51 Xinhua English

BEIJING, June 21 -- The "I Love New York" month continues this week as BonBon welcomes Dirty House duo Astro & Glyde for a Friday night packed with needle damage and dance floor destruction.

Astro & Glyde have been tearing up the New York City and international club scenes with their brand of dirty dirty house which combines all the dance floor fun of 1970s Studio 54 but with an updated electro edge along the lines of fellow New York DJs Junior Sanchez and Alexander Technique.

Touring to promote their full length mix CD "Astro & Glyde Presents The Best Of Dirty Dirty House Volume Two," Astro & Glyde's sound is very current and very New York, having elements of Latin percussion with a sense of style and sass without being snobbish. It's all layered on top of a sexy, slinky seediness that gives Dirty Dirty House Music its true flavor.

It's pure dance music, borne out of Lower Eastside and West Village clubs, big and small, where the emphasis on openness and dynamism takes priority over formulaic music programming.

Just how dirty is Astro & Glyde's dirty dirty house? Kiss FM allstar John Digweed labeled their music "the sleazy sound of New York City."

And Astro & Glyde couldn't be prouder of such a description. Through their legendary weekly Le Souk Sunday Sessions, now in its fifth year, and recent Crobar residency, Astro & Glyde have become prominent in America's electronic music movement and are representative of all things dirty, funky and exciting in NYC. Le Souk Sunday Sessions has become a New York dance music institution.

There's simply no rest for the wicked in the city that never sleeps.

Incorporating the spiciest elements of house, electro, chunk, punk and rock blended with wild mixing abilities gives these DJs the distinction of all-round artists, entertainers and performers.

Seven years down the line, Astro & Glyde continue to put out productions, full length mixes and remixes.

Their releases have gained a reputation for diversity, slick production and dance-floor dynamics. Astro & Glyde's discography covers a multitude of well-respected labels including Bedrock, Effin, Polaroid, Automatic, Inevitable, as well as their own online imprint Water Based Music. Astro & Glyde's releases have also found their way onto many compilation CDs including CDs by Ashley Caselle, Macumba Space of Sound, and the Red Ants' "Thrill Kill Cult Remix" compilation. As well as their own CD releases on System Recordings "Dirty Dirty House, Volume 2" and "Le Souks Sunday Sessions" double CD release.

The next 12 months are set to be Astro & Glyde's busiest to date, with a mix CD of key productions in the works and debuting an original four-track EP with their online label Water Based Music; new singles and remixes to be released imminently on Pink Mammoth, Music For Vinyl and Dusk Recordings; tours of Europe, Asia, North, Central and South America; and the highly anticipated Astro & Glyde full length album.

The "I Love New York" Summer Series parties roll on through June after hosting heavy hitters Alexander Technique, Junior Sanchez and Suss One, Astro & Glyde turn up the sleazy sound of New York City tomorrow night. And just around the bend the original, inimitable Arthur Baker - producer of the penultimate electro track - Afrika Bambaattaa's "Planet Rock" and the driving force behind the internationally acclaimed dance party Return to New York.
