SHANGHAI, Aug. 2 -- A FIVE-TIME Oscar-winner and a top Chinese pianist have written a song that will compete in a contest to become the theme song for the Beijing Olympics.

The song, entitled "In Harmony" in English and "Forever Friends" in Chinese, was created by Giorgio Moroder, an Italian composer based in Hollywood, and Chinese pianist Kong Xiangdong after three years' of work.

Moroder is known for his theme song writing talent. His works include "Reach out," for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics and "Hand in Hand," for the 1988 Seoul Olympics. He also wrote "The Summer of Italy" for the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy.

Kong, educated at the Shanghai Conservatory and the esteemed Curtis Institute in the United States, was hailed as the youngest prize-winner in both the 1996 Moscow International Competition and Spain's Santander International Competition in 1987. He was also the winner of the Grand Prize of the Gina Bachauer International Competition in 1998.

The song was the third time the pair has cooperated. They co-wrote the pop song "Love You for Ten Thousand Years" for Hong Kong star Andy Lau and "Harmonious Garden", the city song for Shenyang in China's northeastern Liaoning Province.
