Chinese film selected as opener of S Korea's PIFF

SEOUL, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese famous director Feng Xiaogang's "Assembly" has been selected as opener of the 12th Pusan International Film Festival (PIFF), local media reported on Wednesday.

According to local media, the festival has also decided to close with Japanese imitation "Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone," which is directed by Hideaki Anno, Kazuya Tsurumaki and Masayuki.

The "Assembly" will be screened as a world premiere at PIFF. It is the latest film of Feng who has made films including "The Banquet," "A World Without Thieves," and "A Sigh."

The film is a human drama portraying a soldier who devotes his entire life to redeeming the honor of fellow soldiers who are declared missing in action.

PIFF, one of Asia's major film festivals, will be held in the southeastern port city of Busan on Oct. 4-12.
