France increases allowance for doctorate researchers
2007-08-29 11:08:39 Xinhua English

PARIS, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- The French government will increase by 8 percent from October the amount of allowance for doctorate researchers from the current 1,530 euros (2,081 U.S. dollars) per month to 1,650 euros, French higher education and research ministry announced Wednesday.

Doctorate researchers who accumulate the allowance with class hours will receive a remuneration of 1,985 euros per month, the equivalent of more than 1.5 times the French minimum wage, says a statement issued by the ministry.

This increment is aimed at enabling doctorate researchers to devote themselves fully to their research activities for preparing their doctoral thesis, says the ministry, adding that 12,000 doctorate researchers will benefit. (1 U.S. dollar = 1.36 euro)
