China bans another 4 `pornographic' radio programs
2007-09-20 03:33:28 Shanghai Daily

SHANGHAI, Sept. 20 -- CHINA'S broadcasting watchdog has banned another four sex-related radio programs after banning seven television shows deemed pornographic on September 15, Cnr.cn reported yesterday

The State Administration of Radio, Film and Television named Ningxia, Jiangxi and Shanxi province-level radio stations for defying the authorities' warning and continuing to air programs about "sex and drug." The programs are said to involve talk of sex life and experience and the efficiency of certain sex drugs.

The administration also criticized those programs, saying they are "extremely corrupt and should be seriously dealt with."

Moreover, the watchdog demanded that its subordinates in these provinces undertake their responsibility and crack down more harshly on wayward broadcasting units to prevent the vulgar programs from spreading.

Provincial officials should immediately censor and halt all the other improper programs, the administration said. Those responsible for airing the shows will also be punished.

On September 13, the administration banned 13 radio shows deemed pornographic. Prior to this event, it banned more than 10 TV programs and radio talk shows in August and early September, with those responsible for the shows being sacked.
