SHANGHAI, Sept. 21 -- WEDDINGS are breaking the traditional mould - two car-racing fans have just become the first couple to marry at Shanghai International Circuit. The bridegroom surnamed Sun met his wife at the circuit while she was volunteering for MOTO GP and Formula One races. Sun, who works at the track, met her and fell in love at a Moto GP race in 2005. However, the couple couldn't drive around the circuit in an F1 race car, so instead they did a victory lap in a sports car on Sunday. Other couples also have the chance to get married at Shanghai International Circuit, said the business department manager surnamed Wei. The track is considering cooperating with wedding agencies to welcome more newlyweds. However, couples can't get married during the May and October holiday weeks, when the track hosts MOTO GP and the Formula One races, said Wei. The upcoming National Day holiday will see a seasonal peak for weddings, according to industry insiders. "We are realizing that more and more young people are not satisfied with the traditional wedding ceremony held in restaurants and hotels," said He Lina, the secretary of Shanghai Wedding Trade Association. "The association will work with wedding agencies to design and arrange any kind of individual wedding ceremony couples want." She said the association had once arranged a wedding ceremony in Golf Court for a couple who met there, and other ceremonies on pleasure boats.
