LOS ANGELES, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- Actor Kiefer Sutherland, who plays a FBI agent on the popular FOX TV series "24," was arrested here Tuesday on suspicion of drunken driving, just hours before he was scheduled to receive an honor from a Canadian entertainers' group.
The 40 year-old actor was pulled over about 1:30 a.m. in West Los Angeles after police spotted him making an illegal U-turn, and was arrested on the misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence, according to a spokeswoman of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Sutherland was released a couple of hours later after posting a25,000-dollar bail, and is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 16,police said.
The arrest came on the same day when the actor, who is the son of Canadian actor Donald Sutherland, was scheduled to be honored by the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) at an afternoon ceremony at the Canadian Consul General's residence in Los Angeles.
Sutherland won a best actor Emmy Award last year for his performance on "24" as Jack Bauer, a counter terrorist unit agent in Los Angeles. The fourth season of the series is returning in January.
