'Tycoon,' 'beauty' banned from marriage ads
2007-10-18 02:10:31 Shanghai Daily

SHANGHAI, Oct. 18 -- WORDS describing wealth and appearance can't be used in marriage-seeking advertisements in Zhengzhou City, capital of Henan Province, according to a new regulation issued by the city's civil affair bureau.

The regulation will take effect next month, the Zhengzhou Evening News reported.

The regulation stipulated that match-making agencies can't use words such as "tycoon, beauty and handsome man" in advertisements, the report said.

Advertisements for travel companions and adoptions are also forbidden, the report said.

Agencies also can't publish marriage-seeking advertisements involving foreigners, the report said.

The advertisements can be published only in appointed media outlets, the report said.

Those who violate the regulation will receive a warning. Two warnings will lead to the suspension of the business and the agencies will be shut down if they receive a third warning, the report said.
