BEIJING, Dec. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Kiefer Sutherland staring as the dashing anti-terrorism agent Jack Bauer in "24" was sentenced to 48 days in jail in his drunken driving case, media reported Thursday.

The 40-year-old Emmy winner would serve his time -- 30 days for a DUI-related charge, 18 days for probation violation -- in Glendale City Jail in downtown Los Angeles.

Sutherland must begin the sentence before March 30, said Assistant City Attorney Dan Jeffries.

On Oct. 9, Sutherland was arrested for driving under influence and he subsequently accepted the fact that he'd have to serve some time because he was still on probation for a previous misdemeanor DUI charge in 2004.

The sentence of Sutherland will not affect the shoot of the sixth season of "24" thanks to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike.

"I'm very disappointed in myself for the poor judgment I exhibited recently, and I'm deeply sorry for the disappointment and distress this has caused my family, friends and co-workers," Sutherland said after he entered his plea in the latest case.
