SHANGHAI university students will have an opportunity to visit the North Pole next year.
As part of the International Polar Year, the first batch of 10 university students will be sent to the Svalbard archipelago in northern Norway for two weeks of scientific research from February 28 to March 13.
Students are scheduled to visit Huanghe Station, China's North Pole research station, and research bases belonging to the United Kingdom, France and Italy.
The cost of the trip will be covered by its co-sponsors from China and Norway, organizers said.
Online applications start from today and run through December 23 at www.pric.gov.cn. Organizers added that a contest comprised of questions about the North Pole would also be held to help select candidates.
