Singles make dates pay for precious time

A woman from Pingdingshan, Henan province, auctioned herself off for a one-day date for 1,999 yuan ($275) last weekend.

The auction was organized by a matchmaking agency.

Three other singles similarly put their dating rights under the hammer. Part of the money from the auction will reportedly go to charity.

A number of residents opposed the practice, including a man, surnamed Wei, who said it was "vulgar".

But Li Jun, a local lawyer, said such "dating rights" are personal and people are free to use them as they wish.
