Former vice minister of education dies

BEIJING, March 14 (Xinhua) -- Huang Xinbai, former vice minister of China's Ministry of Education, has died at the age of 87.

According to a government obituary released on Friday, Huang died of illness on Feb. 29. President Hu Jintao and other state and Party leaders expressed their condolences over his death, it said.

Huang, a Shanghai native, joined the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) in 1939.

He became vice education minister in 1979 and retired in June 1985.
