Julius Caesar remembered in Italy

BEIJING, March 21 -- Beware the Ides of March - it's more than two millennia since Julius Caesar failed to heed that fateful warning.

Caesar's assassination at the Roman Senate is commemorated on the 15th of March. Roman residents come to lay floral tributes and wreaths at the foot of Julius Caesar's statue.

And there on the verge of the Imperial Forum archeological site, tourists eagerly gather to have their photos taken next to the image of the legendary conqueror.

According to the legend, Julius Caesar embodies several virtues connected to the Roman character - endurance, persistence and martial skills.

Caesar was stabbed to death, March 15, 44 BC. Julius Caesar's sudden and brutal death, his military conquests, political career and his love affairs, surround him with an aura of mystery that endures.

More than 20 centuries later, he remains one of History's most fascinating characters.
