Japanese film festival to be held in Myanmar early next year

YANGON, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- A Japanese film festival will be held in two cities of Myanmar in the first two months of next year, aiming at strengthening the mutual friendship between Japan and Myanmar, according to a release of the Japanese Embassy here Wednesday.

The Japanese Film Festival 2008 is to take place at the Thamada Cinema in Yangon from Jan. 18-21 and the Winlite Cinema in Mandalay from Feb. 23-26.

Four Japanese films will be screened on the occasion, namely "Nabbie's Love", "Water Boys", "Linda Linda Linda" and "Ping Pong Bath Station", the release said.

The Japanese film festival has been held annually by the embassy in collaboration with the Japan Foundation in the two Myanmar cities.

According to the release, the film festival is also among a variety of exchange programs between Japan and the Mekong region countries to commemorate the 2009 Japan-Mekong Exchange Year, the logo and catch line of the event "Together toward the future, Mekong and Japan".
