Campaign to combat sexism, improve men's health care launched in Brazil

BRASILIA, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- A campaign aimed to combat sexism and improve men's health care was launched on Tuesday in Brazil's northeastern city of Recife.

The campaign, entitled "Machismo and Health don't Match", encourages men to seek health care when symptoms appear in a bid to facilitate early diagnosis of diseases, said campaign coordinator Mariana Azevedo.

"Some men do not seek the service when disease appears. They allow the disease to become more severe and do not go to the doctor because they don't want to admit they feel pain or weakness", she said, adding that health services need to treat men differently.

The campaign, which will last until Wednesday, has drawn some 6,000 participants, including students, health professionals and researchers.
