A/H1N1 flu death toll rises to 23 in Turkey

ANKARA, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Turkey reported two more influenza A/H1N1 death cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the national death toll of the novel flu to 23, Turkish Health Ministry said Saturday.

The ministry said in a statement that the latest victims were two women, aged 43 and 53, without giving more details.

Turkey has witnessed a fast rise of A/H1N1 flu deaths during the past two weeks.

On Friday, Turkish Health Ministry said two Turks died of influenza A/H1N1 in Turkey, bringing the death toll to 21.

Turkey registered the first A/H1N1 flu case on May 15. The first death case was a 28-year-old male hospital janitor in Ankara, who died on Oct. 24.

On Monday, Turkey began to vaccinate vulnerable groups against the A/H1N1 flu, including health workers and Muslim pilgrims preparing to travel to Mecca for the annual hajj.
