LOS ANGELES, March 15(Xinhuanet)-- Commuters in two major Japanese cities may notice posters featuring American entertainers like Jamie Lee Curtis, Lionel Richie, Jason Behr and Barbie, touting Los Angeles as an amazing tourist destination.
According to LA Inc., the Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau, the posters are part of a campaign aimed at luring Japanese tourists to the second biggest US city, which is home to Hollywood and the Disneyland theme park.
A total of five dozen"See My LA" posters are hanging in the corridors of 20 Tokyo subway stations and 10 Osaka train stations, said an official of the visitors bureau on Tuesday.
"There's huge potential for Los Angeles to capture more of this market, but also a climate of intense competition from other US destinations," said Patti MacJennett, who heads marketing for the bureau.
In the ads, the real-life celebrities and Barbie reveal their favorite aspect of the city.
The campaign also includes similar advertisements in a popular Japanese women's magazine, Crea.
In 2004, Los Angeles registered arrivals of some 384,000 Japanese visitors who spent an estimated 362 million US dollars, a top overseas market for the US metropolitan.
