BEIJING, April 26-- Hollywood star Jackie Chan plans to make a film in Cambodia to raise awareness about landmines and HIV.
The popular kung fu hero released the news at a press briefing after a three-day visit to Cambodia as a UN goodwill ambassador.
Chan says that the best way for him to spread the word about Cambodian landmine victims and the plight of HIV sufferers is via the silver screen.
He plans to collaborate with friends to come up with a script but did not elaborate on the plot, saying it was still open to change. Filming would probably start later this year or early 2006.
As a goodwill ambassador for the UN children's fund, UNICEF, and UNAIDS, Jackie Chan visited the northwestern towns of Battambang and Pailin, calling on landmine victims at a hospital and sitting in on mine risk classes with children.
Cambodia is one of the most heavily mined countries in the world following nearly three decades of civil war that ended in 1998. It also suffers from the highest HIV infection rate in Asia.
