BEIJING, May 13-- A multimedia musical about the life of the late Chinese singer and film actress Zhou Xuan opened Tuesday in Shanghai and will soon come to Beijing.

Boasting a star cast including the mainland singer Lin Yilun and Taiwan singer Yi Nengjing, the musical strikes a good balance between old classics and new works, moving many in the audience to tears.

¡@ Zhou Xuan, nicknamed Golden Throat, was one of the most popular singers and film actresses in China during 1930s and 40s. She died of illness in 1957 in Shanghai, aged only 39.

The musical will come to Beijing's Poly Theatre on May 17.
