BEIJING, May 27-- Reformed boyband Backstreet Boys plan to surprise fans with their new album, with some entirely new musical directions.

The group, which includes the original line-up that recorded their last single five years ago, are promising to combine classic ballads with some more inventive pop.

Singer Nick Carter says:"The ballads are still there but we have also tried new stuff.

"I hope that people will be surprised, as there are so many different types of music on it."
