UNWTO names Jackie Chan ambassador of tourism

Action movie star Jackie Chan (FilePhoto)MADRID, June 13 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has named action movie star Jackie Chan the first ambassador of tourism in the Asia-Pacific region, the organization said in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement said Chan had told the UN tourism agency that he would be very honored to take the post, and that he would do as much as he could to promote healthy and sustainable tourism and help less lucky people enjoy travel.

Chan, who has traveled widely in the filming of his movies, promised to make all the buildings he "slides" through tourist attractions.

The UNWTO, based in Madrid, Spain, has the main tasks of collecting tourism statistics, researching on tourism policies andproviding advice for the tourism sector of its members. Enditem
