The stage crew for each show would comprise 140 people, he said.

The theater is understood to have paid 70 million yuan (8.75 million U.S. dollars) to import the Broadway hit and will stage at least 100 shows.

Tickets will be available for 21 different prices, ranging from 100 yuan for midweek shows up to 2,000 yuan at peak times.

Sales for the first 28 shows began in February in dozens of China's mainland cities, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

To date, 12,000 tickets have been sold for the show, which will run until October, said the spokesman. Enditem
