China held a grand ceremony to celebrate ancient philosopher and educator Confucius' 2,557th birth anniversary inside the Confucian Temple in Qufu, hometown of Confucius in east China's Shandong Province, September 28, 2006.

Women are to be recognised for the first time as descendants of Confucius in a new family tree of the ancient Chinese philosopher, Xinhua News Agency said on Wednesday.
