Workers clean up spent fireworks used during the traditional New Year celebration in Dalian, northeastern China's Liaoning Province, on Monday, Feb. 19, 2007.

The Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival, started on Sunday, Feb. 18, and marks the beginning of the Year of the Pig.

Fireworks, traditionally known as a Chinese invention, form an integral and noisy part of the country's most important festival.

One person was killed and 270 others injured in China's capital as millions of fireworks were set off to celebrate the Lunar New Year, state press reported Monday.
