The photo taken on Nov. 8, 2009 shows a young monk in a Buddhist temple in Mengla County, southwest China's Yunnan Province. The Mengla county of Dai Autonomous Prefecture of Xishuangbanna is located at the border of China and Laos where Theravada Buddhism is prevailing. In the tradition of the Dai ethnic group, boys should become monk at the age of ten and learn Dai language and Buddhist sutra in the temple. According to the rules, these young monks could be secularized after several years' cultivation in the temple. There are eleven monks in the Buddhist temple of Manle Village, four of whom are 12 years old boys and came to the temple together in 2006. They became intimate friends. Although they have to attend many Buddhist ceremonies in the village and spend much time in study, they like playing games and having fun in their spare time just like any other child.
