12 IS terrorists killed in airstrikes in Syria's al-Bab

ANKARA, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Russian air forces conducted three separate airstrikes in southern parts of Syria's al-Bab, killing 12 Islamic State (IS) terrorists, the Turkish General Staff said Friday.

Turkish military forces hit 222 identified IS targets destroying shelters, weapon pits, command control buildings, weapons and vehicles used by the terrorists.

Turkish warplanes killed 26 IS members including high ranking terrorists according to initial findings, and destroyed 17 IS targets, 13 defensive positions, one armed vehicle and three armed vehicle factories, the military statement added.

One Turkish military official was killed, and five others were injured during IS attacks in southern parts of Syria's al Azraq, the statement added.

Ankara has been pushing southwards, supporting Free Syrian Arm (FSA )forces as part of Operation Euphrates Shield, which was first launched on Aug. 24, to clear IS and other terrorist groups from Turkey's southern borders.
