VIENTIANE， March 13 (Xinhua) -- A dozen of Lao vovinam athletes are preparing the Fourth World Vovinam Championship due to lack of funds， local report said on Monday.
"We don't have younger fighters to join the national team. We wanted to send 23 people to compete in the fighting and dance events at the championship in India. Unfortunately， we do not have enough funding or the facilities to support a bigger vovinam team，" coach Viengsouk Hangngeun was quoted by Lao state-run media Vientiane Times.
The event will be held in India this August.
Hangngeun said the team will ask for assistance from the National Olympic Committee.
The Lao vovinam team recently won three gold， three silver and 15 bronze medals at the Fourth Southeast Asian Vovinam Championship 2017 in Cambodia in January.
At the Asian Beach Games held in Vietnam last year， the Lao team won one gold and six bronze medals.
Vovinam is a Vietnamese martial art which involves both unarmed and weapon combat.
