China issues orange alert for Typhoon Talim

BEIJING, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- China's national weatherobservatory Tuesday issued an orange alert for Typhoon Talim, the18th typhoon this year.

At 5 p.m. Tuesday, the eye of Talim was above the northwesternPacific Ocean, 1,050 km southeast of Zhoushan, Zhejiang Province,packing winds of up to 38 meters per second, the NationalMeteorological Center (NMC) said in a statement.

The NMC has forecasted the typhoon will either move northwestand make landfall in Zhejiang from Thursday night to Fridaymorning, or move north into waters near Zhejiang on Friday and thenturn northeast.

From Tuesday to Wednesday, Talim will bring gales to thenorthern East China Sea, Taiwan Strait and east coast of Taiwan, aswell as parts of the South China Sea.

The NMC also warned of this year's 19th typhoon, as yet unnamed,above waters 1,130 km southeast of Wenchang, Hainan Province, onTuesday afternoon, moving northwest at a speed of 15 to 20 km perhour.

China has a four-tier color-coded system for severe weather,with red being the most serious, followed by orange, yellow andblue. Enditem
