Bosnian qualifier wins ATP title in Sofia

SOFIA, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- Bosnian qualifier Mirza Basic won thefinal of the ATP 250 DIEMA XTRA Sofia Open tournament here onSunday after beating Marius Copil of Romania 7-6 (6), 6-7 (4),6-4.

Basic lifted his first ATP title warmly applauded by some 10,000spectators in Arena Armeec Hall.

Thanks to this success, the 26-year-old, who started thetournament as the No. 129 in the ATP rankings, will move to the76th place in the world on Monday.

Meanwhile, he will pocket 89,435 euros (some 110,000 U.S.dollars) of prize money.

On the road to the glory since Feb. 4, Basic beat AlexandarLazov of Bulgaria 6-7, 7-6, 6-4, and Tomislav Brkic of Bosnia andHerzegovina 7-5, 6-4 in the qualifying matches. Then, he defeatedFlorian Mayer of Germany 6-4, 6-1, the fourth seeded PhilippKohlschreiber of Germany 7-5, 7-6, Maximilian Marterer of Germany6-4, 4-6, 6-3, and the top-seeded Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland 7-6,6-4.

"I am living my dream," Basic said at the award ceremony. "Sofiawill ever stay special to me," he said.
