1 missing after rainstorm batters SW China

KUNMING, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Heavy downpours have left one person missing in the city of Tengchong, southwest China's Yunnan Province, according to local publicity authorities.

As of 9 p.m. Thursday, the disastrous weather had damaged 219 houses and affected over 166.67 hectares of crops in Houqiao Township in the city.

A total of 190 people were evacuated by over 700 rescue workers since torrential rains began to lash the city Tuesday.

Rainfall will last until Monday, adding to the difficulties of rescue work, according to the local meteorological department.
