An elderly bicycle repairman waits for business at his improvised stall set on the sidewalk of a busy avenue in Beijing, Oct. 25, 2005.

The number of citizens above the age of 60 will increase from the current 147 million to 243 million in 2020.

Li Bengong, vice-director of China's National Committee of Aging, expressed his concern that the infrastructure and social services for the elderly will not be able to meet the demand.
