A monk takes a photograph of a friend in front of a replica of Tibet's Potala Palace in Beijing's Tiananmen Square, Sept. 13, 2006.

The square is being decorated ahead of celebrations of the National Day, which falls on Oct. 1.

China recently inaugurated a high-speed train line connecting the Tibetan capital, Lhasa, to Beijing and opened another airport in Tibet, as part of government-sponsored infrastructure program meant to help raise living standards in Tibet.
