A cooling tower is demolished at a power plant in Xianyang, in northwest China's Shaanxi province, August 15, 2007.

China's energy consumption per unit of gross domestic product dropped 2.78 percent in the first half of 2007 from the same period a year earlier, the government announced, Xinhua News Agency reported.
