After months of controversy following her less than amicable split with the original Club China Doll’s investors, local female entrepreneur Ai Wan has finally opened her own club, and it seemed she couldn’t bear to part with the establishment’s cool moniker. Called ChinaDoll, and located at the top of the 3.3 shopping mall, it’s rather awkwardly accessed via a cramped elevator. Once past the jazzy pastel shades and potted plants of the lounge area, the club is decorated in an eye-catching array of colours, but the décor does tread a thin line between classy and gaudy. Dance music pumps through the club’s fine soundsystem, while clubbers muse at the nearly-nude portraits of writhing bodies sapphicly entwined that adorn the walls.
They may be large and well mixed, but drinks here are also pricey, with cocktails averaging around 70RMB.Well worth looking out for, however, is the club’s roof terrace, which will open later this summer.
