Michael Jordan in Taiwan from Hong Kong visit

CHIANG KAI-SHEK AIRPORT, May 21 -- American basketball superstar Michael Jordan arrived in Taiwan on his four-leg Asian tour Friday following a brief presence in Hong Kong.

Jordan, who was on the third of his four-leg Asian promotion tour , waved to hundreds of fans welcoming him in the lobby of Chiang Kai-shek International Airport in northern Taiwan, news agencies reported.

According to the schedule, Jordan will be talking to the press Saturday afternoon before meeting his fans at a show for displaying Jordan Brand products.

Previously in the news conference in Hong Kong Friday, Jordan said that Chinese NBA star Yao Ming will help draw Asian basketball talent to the top US professional league.

"I think Asia, it will continue to grow with the talent that's in the league now and the other players are going to want to do the things Yao Ming is doing,'' Jordan told reporters in Hong Kong."I think it's going to be very positive.''

Jordan said the presence of Yao, a center for the Houston Rockets, and Wang Zhizhi, another Chinese center who plays for the Miami Heat, reflected basketball's growing popularity in Asia.

"Those guys have started to show that the game has started to expand toward Asia,'' Jordan said."It helps the game of basketball to be able to globally be connected to so many different countries.''

The basketball legend will finish his one-day visit and fly to Tokyo on May 22.
