Sarah Brightman amazes Chinese fans  

BEIJING, June 1 (SINA English) -- Sarah Brightman, a leading "popera" soprano, specializing in syrupy mixed pop and classical music, staged concerts on May 30 and 31 in Beijing and brought an unparalleled extravaganza to China.

Hardcore fans of Sara Brightman enjoyed an amazing concert showcasing the very best of the pop diva at the Capital Gymnasium. Multi-genre songs were presented at the concert including the classic numbers The Phantom of the Opera, Time to Say Goodbye and Memory.

"Harem," a mix of pop music, classical themes and Middle Eastern textures, is her new recording and also the title for her concert tour that sent her to China for the first time. She has already toured Europe, Brazil, Japan, Lebanon and South Africa,and the United States since last May.

Afther the singer gave two performances in Beijing, she will move to perform another two in Shanghai on June 4 and in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, on June 6, according to Beijing Cangming Culture Co. Ltd, one of three co-sponsors of Brightman's Chinese tour.

Brightman built up her worldwide reputation by her performance in Cats, the Phantom of the Opera and La Luna and her melancholy recordings such as Time to Say Goodbye.

Sarah Brightman, 42, says her unique musical style doesn't really fit into any category and even she can't put a peg on it.
